The Very Hungry Caterpillar “In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.” I recently attended a parent meeting led by the Kindergarten teacher Zachariah will have next year. She told the parents that out of an entire class of Kinders…usually only one student is able to tell her how the egg got on the leaf…..I plan for each of my Triple Smiles to be that one!
I was very excited to learn of the preschool programs the Plano Heritage Homestead presents twice a month on Fridays. The program today was titled Caterpillars and Butterflys. I must say I was quite disappointed in the “program” part of the program. The kids didn’t really learn anything about Caterpillars or Butterflys. The leader did read a small 5x7 sized book to a group of about 30 preschoolers….a non fiction book…that did not hold interest to many of the kids.
However; there were several very fun themed Butterfly Activities. The played a game where they caught pretend butterflys in a net, they played “pin the pom pom on the caterpillar, and they made a darling craft.
We also went on a butterfly scavenger hunt…..again not real butterflys:(
There are also plenty of other things to do while at the ole Homestead!
Hang Clothes on the Line
Visit the Goats and Horses
Ride the Tractor
Feed the Chickens
Get a Drink
Walk with a Friend
Visit a One Room Schoolhouse..
(I think my favorite!)
Levi immediately took his place as “the teacher.”
He quickly gave his sister some “work” to do at her desk.
And put his brother in the corner:(
After he got out of the corner, he had to get the coal for the fire….poor Zachariah!
It was a beautiful day at the Homestead, despite the rain…and all had fun even if we really didn’t learn a thing about Butterflys!
