I don’t remember the first prick. It may have been literally tripping over toys to put my children to bed. But over the past 8-12 months the Lord has been pricking my heart in one way or another to simply help others. My sweet friend Melissa started a blog Melissa Stuff that helps people save money in order to be able to give money to others.
One evening, about 3 months ago..I was browsing facebook.. and was drawn to a page of a friend who was posting pictures of children who live near Nairobi, Kenya, Africa….who are sick, hungry…and literally have nothing. I must have looked at her page for hours….praying “God, what are you asking me to do?”
My first idea was to try to find 4 or 5 friends to go in together to help one child. But as time drew on…more and more children were posted that needed help. One particular family I was drawn to was this single mother with TWO sets of twins. Their father had left them to perish.
As I started cleaning out toys and clothes for the upcoming consignment sale…God started pricking my heart even more…”you could sell all this STUFF…and feed 2 kids for a year” All this STUFF..you don’t need anymore…could feed 2 kids in Kenya for a year! Wow! Talk about putting things in perspective.
Cyndy, is the founder of The Orbit Village Project in Nairobi, Kenya. You must read about her project….it will touch your heart!
So I wrote to Cyndy…and ask for 2 kids(a boy and a girl)…about the ages of my kids…so we could turn this into a full family mission project. I want to teach my children to love others and to put into action the verse from 1 Timothy that says “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
TODAY! I got word from Cyndy that our family had been picked to sponsor these precious children, Cynthia..and Wilson.
When she sent me the story about why our family was chosen….(will share later) tears were streaming down my face because they are about the age of Zachariah! Those of you who know me well…know how I wanted twins before Zachariah was born!
And…little did I know…that when Gordon and I were so faithfully praying for “a baby”…these babies were also going to be apart of our family…5 years later.
Cyndy is still needing a sponsor for the younger set of twins…so if you are interested in that at all….let me know.
I will post more about this adventure! I will tell you, my heart ALREADY wants to go meet them!
A TripleSmiles Field Trip to Kenya…..Honey……
