I bet you are thinking…what does playing with trains have to do with ABC’s? Well…lately at my house…everything! My boys know the name and color of every “Thomas the Train” engine and so one day I decided to turn it into alphabet fun!
First let me add the above picture is one of those times when they are avoiding bed time by playing well together! Love it!
Anyway, I made each boy a book of Thomas pictures and have had them post the letter that matches the beginning letter of train’s name next to the picture of the coordinating engine. 
I do not have a picture of this yet…but I have also drawn a BIG letter B on the back of this page…and we will get the actual Bertie the Bus and let the boys trace the letter B with the train.
When I catch them playing with a certain engine, I will ask them to get their “Learning Book” and we’ll go over it. That way I am capitalizing on their interest instead of forcing my teaching on them. This has worked so well the last 2 weeks!
